Spillage Tips & Answers

Always act quickly!

  • Remove any solids, blot up liquids using white paper towels or cloth

  • Blot, do not rub

  • A little white vinegar (not malt) in warm water will help remove tea, coffee and alcohol spillages

  • Do not overwet - leave a pad of weighted paper towels to help absorb more of the spillage

  • A mild detergent (not washing up liquid) in warm water can be used to moisten a cloth. Dab this on the spillage working from the outer edge to the middle. Blot dry with paper towels

  • Oil, tar, lipstick and shoe polish marks will need a dry-cleaning solvent. Detergent will not work and can make it worse - Put a little solvent on a cloth and blot the mark

  • Do not put solvent directly on the carpet

  • If unsuccessful, STOP - further attempts can set the stain and make removal unlikely

  • Rubbing hard across the surface can cause irreparable damage. If in doubt please contact us - our free advice is just a phone call away!
